Frequently asked questions

How is the due date calculated?

Pregnancy is counted from the first day of your last menstrual period, not from conception. The due date is that day plus 280 days (40 weeks), known as Naegele's rule.

What if I don't know when my last period started?

If your doctor gave you a due date from an ultrasound, switch to Due date and the calculator counts back from it. An ultrasound date is often more accurate than one from your cycle.

Why is my doctor's week different?

Irregular cycles or late ovulation can shift the dates. Follow the weeks your healthcare provider measured by ultrasound.

What are the trimesters?

The first trimester is weeks 0–13, the second weeks 14–27 and the third from week 28 until birth.
